How accessible is Vinzenzgasse in Graz?
12. May 2026
As part of the “Get moving! – Healthy streets in Eggenlend” project, the IFZ and the Eggenlend Community Center, in cooperation with the Selbstbestimmt Leben Steiermark association, organized a workshop on accessibility on April 17.
Together with experts from Selbstbestimmt Leben, the workshop placed a special focus on the practical analysis of public spaces.
A key component of the event was a walk along Vinzenzgasse, during which participants examined the street’s accessibility from various perspectives. In the process, they identified obstacles, shared their experiences, and developed specific suggestions for improvement. Problem areas included, for example, sidewalks that were too narrow and steeply sloped, a lack of greenery, and a construction site that was not designed to be accessible.
The workshop offered valuable insights into the importance of inclusive urban design and underscored how crucial it is to consider the needs of all people in the planning and design of street spaces. The results will be incorporated into the project measures and forwarded to the City of Graz.
