The background to the pilot was the realization of the RESISTIRÉ project that in general, but more so due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the rush to and use of green spaces was increasingly happening by men - the design and equipment of green spaces was also designed more for a male audience.

In this respect, together with the Transition Graz association and the Triester district center, two green spaces in the Triester district were being planned in a participatory manner with the residents of the Triester district with regard to their use and design. Together with existing and potential users, various possible uses were being tested, e.g. sporting activities, opportunities to linger/picnic, artistic activities and much more. - The ideas came from the users. Parallel to the revitalization of these green spaces, work was also carried out on a participatory utilization concept, which contains recommendations including suggestions for infrastructural equipment (equipment, seating, trees, ...) and was to be handed over to the city of Graz.

As part of the pilot activity in the Triester Viertel, the IFZ provided expertise on gender and intersectionality aspects, accompanied the project as part of the project advisory board and gave feedback on the concepts developed for upgrading the two green spaces.
