Energy Cell Feldbach - Regional Concept for an Energy Cell and Crisis Precaution using the example of a “Blackout"

The project develops a basis for a regional, autonomous and robust energy cell that ensures a sufficient auxiliary (power) supply in case of failures in the transmission grid, caused by a blackout or a regional extreme weather condition.

Europe and Austria are confronted with a rising risk of blackouts. The high costs of a blackout (billions of Euros) in connection with the non-economic damages require an in-depth consideration of the topic. Resilient supply-systems manage to minimise these costs.

Energiezelle Feldbach (Energy Cell Feldbach) develops a basis for a regional, autonomous and robust energy cell that ensures a sufficient auxiliary (power) supply in case of failures in the transmission grid, caused by a blackout or a regional extreme weather condition. An important factor is, that the residents of the city of Feldbach is not treated as “in need of protection” but by using a transparent security communications concept is going to be integrated as active members into the crisis intervention and response as well the organisation of the energy cell itself.

IFZ is responsible for the integration of residents in form of surveys and participation workshops.
