Background

In 1999 the Interdisciplinary Research Centre for Technology, Work and Culture (IFZ) launched the Institute for Advanced Studies on Science, Technology and Society (IAS-STS) in Graz, Austria. IFZ is still the host institution for IAS-STS.

Broadly speaking, IAS-STS is an Institute for the enhancement of Science and Technology Studies.

Each year, IAS-STS hosts international researchers for up to nine months. During this period, researchers explore the issues outlined in our fellowship programme (the new programme will be published at the end of 2019), the focus of which changes every year.

Within the framework of this fellowship programme, IAS-STS promotes the interdisciplinary investigation of the links and interaction between science, technology and society, as well as research on the development and implementation of socially sound and environmentally sustainable technologies.
