2013
The project GISAlab (Girls in Science and Art) is a cooperation of the art association kunst ost, of and UniGraz@Museum the University of Teacher Education Styria. It is intended for girls at the age of 10 and older. The objective of GISAlab is to support girls in discovering and developing their fascination and skills in regard to science and technology by offering them a creative and artistic approach to these fields of interest. Pedagogues and artists guide the participating girls in the process of creating their pieces of art which are presented in a vernissage at the end of each semester.
IFZ was entrusted with an evaluation of GISAlab. The study revolves around two basic research interests:
1. How can art be used as a medium for technology and science education (especially with the specific target group of GISAlab)? How can the collaboration with artists trigger thinking about scientific and technological topics?
2. How can art as a medium and self-conducted experiments as a method trigger learning processes with the participating girls?
